what bass effect pedal to buy my bf?

hey!
its his birthday soon, he is a bassist in a metal band. i thought about getting him an effects pedal, but it cant be a bog standard one as he will already have it probs.

what do you think?
also i play acoustic so know nothing about this so be gentle with me!!!

In a metal band alot of the times the bass player uses some form of distortion, I've played bass for a long time and my favorite bass distortion is the BigMuff i use the guitar one, mine is realy old, it was my dads from 1965, but they do have a bass one. Also a chorus pedal, alot of famous metal bassists used chorus pedals like Cliff Burton in his solo along with a BigMuff and a CryBaby...

There's no way we can guess what pedals he does and doesn't have. Maybe you could find out somehow and let us know?

Also, if he's in a metal band he probably won't be interested in the John Entwistle angle...
