What bank is the best for someone in the military?

I am joining the army and my recruiter needs a direct deposit form. Problem is i don't have a bank account. So i was just wondering if any banks in California offer any special things for military personnel?

As the others said USAA. Dunno if you can join the bank if you haven't been to basic yet though. I would get one in your home town to start with, and once you finish your training you switch over, while keeping your home bank so your family can help you out or visa-versa. Thats what i did.
 
I had this question, also.
I called my recruiter and asked if I should just wait to open one at basic and he said yeah, that in the long run it's better.
So I won't be opening one until I get to basic. S:
