What bands of our time are going to have an influential impact 10yrs from now?

that's only opinion.

I agree mars volta will be influential. radiohead as well. I'd like to say smashing pumpkins, but they've sort of been looked over since adore. you never know though.

PANTERA, they kicked fuckin' ass and any metal band out now pretty much notes them as an inspiration, especially now with the Dimebag kickin' it in god's tavern as Zakk Wylde would say...

Greg Dulli will go down as one of the most prolific singer songwriters of the last decade... the sad thing is, the average pissant music fan has never heard of him. By a fusion of people's poor choice in music and nazi radio like Clear Channel, much of Greg Dulli's music has gone unnoticed. Do yourselves a favor and pick up some Afghan Whigs or Twilight Singers or most recently Greg Dulli's Amber Headlights.

can't believe nobody has said it yet... but, outkast !!!

simply the most timeless hip hop group in history. they have always stayed far ahead of their time.

Yeah, I hope they quit whatever they're doing. Society is pretty bad without hip-hop brining it down further.

However, which band of today will be influential in the future? Hard to say, there's a few I'm leaning towarRAB, but I won't say anything at this point in time.

I don't agree with the Pantera statement however, they were great, but they are not exactly recent, are they? They were pretty much dead when Anselmo left the band to play with Necrophagia, Viking Crown, Down, and then Superjoint Ritual. With the death of Dimebag and the dissolution of Damageplan, there is no more chance for Pantera to do anymore than it already has. However, I am willing to admit that Pantera has had a lot of influence already, considering the huge amount of side projects that it's former band mates had done.

EDIT: We need another Sex Pistols style band, now there is a band that influenced a generation.

ignornace oozes from every angle of this post.

outkast is not your normal gun and money rap music you may generalize all "black" music into. outkast has positive impact and speaks messages for a culture of people you may not care to understand just like your southern confederate flag waving heavy metal does.

hip hop for the most part aside from all the bullshit on the radio, is an art form that carries meaning for a lot of people in thje lyrics... its more than just a good melody and beat like most rock music.

Yes, because Metal and Rock revolve around a good melody and beat. There is obviously no intelligence or meaning behind any of the lyrics in any Metal songs. Right.

It's not the melody or the beat that carry the most meaning, in my opinion. What's most important to me is skill. Anybody can get up and start talking shit while computer generated music play in the background. This is exactly why rap and hip-hop became to be considered pop. Talentless people realized that they could make a shitload of money with little or no effort on their part.
