"Verizon Foundation has put out a video that teaches little girls to fear their fathers as abusive and dangerous "Monsters." The commercial's perverse message can be summed in this slide: "She's afraid of her dad."
This advertisement is particularly disturbing since the use of animation makes it appealing to children. It smears adult men as the only abusers in a household, when the fact is women are just as likely to abuse their partners as men.
There's one word that sums up the biases found in this commercial: Shameful.
The commercial also suggests that the male brother of the little girl is not having nightmares about domestic violence, in fact it suggests that HE is twice as likely to become a "Monster" himself!
This commercial is offensive to both men AND women. Mothers should especially be offended because it concludes that THEIR sons, fathers, husbands, brothers, uncles and grandfathers are all potential "Monsters"
This commercial is dangerously harmful to children and families.
It would not be okay or allowed if these PSA commercials was about Gays or if this commercial was about women who murder their own toddlers.
Everyone who finds this dishonest, sexist and bigoted P-BS-A (Public Bull-**** Announcement) offensive to please contact the Verizon Foundation to voice your complaint/disgust/outrage about their campaign to portray all men as the sole perpetrators of domestic violence and "monsters" and all boys as potential abusers and "monsters" and all women and girls as victims"
