I have no problem with it - it's not like the dog will care - but some people have got really offended when I have referred to their dog as "it" when I don't know what sex s/he is.
Lol some people think their dogs are the same as children and get really miffed if you don't say he or she. It would annoy me if someone called my dog "it" but only if I knew they knew he is a boy because that would just be laziness.
