All good choices above.

I will add

First Blood - the best Rambo film.

The Fog - John Carpenter horror classic

Aliens - awesome sci-fi action

Can't Buy Me Love - fun US high school film about a nerd who pays a cheerleader to be his girlfriend

Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure was released in 1989 in the USA and here in April 1990 - can this count ?

I'm so bored of these A-Zs and games on the movie forum!

My favourites are:

Pretty in Pink - the first teen prom film and the best, in my opinion. I love Duckie so much!

Adventures in Babysitting - I've come to realise Elisabeth Shue is in so many of my favourite films (Leaving Las Vegas, Karate Kid, Cocktail...). This film reminRAB me of being a kid

The Goonies - need I say more?

Rain Man - one of the best Cruise performances, even if popular opinion states he was overshadowed by Hoffman.

There are so may more I could mention! The 80s were brilliant! :-)

Pretty in Pink - I so wanted to be Andi

Breakfast Club - Judd Nelsons one liners and the nerdy principal

Vacation - who can forget the auntie strapped to the car roof

Class - Rob Lowe finding Andrew McCarthy with his mother, lol!

Desperately Seeking Susan - cheesy but great

St Elmos Fire - would Rob Lowe ever really fancy Mare Winningham?

All the Back To The Futures.
All the Indiana Joneses.
Trading Places and Beverly Hills Cop.
This Is Spinal Tap.
The Rambos.
The Lethal Weapons.
The early Nightmare On Elm Streets.
The Lost Boys.
Ferris Beuller's Day Off.
The National Lampoons Vacations.

When films had cheesy soft rock or synth pop soundtracks (often written by Harold Faltermeier), were often produced by Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer - or John Hughes, often starred one or more Brat Packers (or one or more Saturday Night Live regulars such as Steve Martin, Chevy Chase, Eddie Murphy, John Candy, Dan Aykroyd, Martin Short etc etc etc), were often buddy movies and had lots of explosions and bad one-liners.

Awful, awful film. Had me desperately seeking the exit.

The best:

Ferris Bueller's Day Off - just pure fun and the best version of Twist and Shout ever.

Trading Places - saw some of it again last night. WTF happened to Eddie Murphy - he was so great in that and gradually slid downhill.

Stand By Me - a really touching but enjoyable film.

Karate Kid 1: still stanRAB up well.

Back To The Future 1: I didn't think the follow ups nearly as good.

Being There - I think it was released in 1980, if it was made in 79. Beautiful, touching, gently hilarious and intelligent.

Outrageous Fortune

Nightmare on Elm Street 1,2,3 - KiRAB being murdered in their dreams centered around Robert Englund's iconic performance of the then scary Freddy Krueger.

The Fly - Still looks great (and disgusting) after 23 years.Barely aged at all.

Masters of the Universe - Sure it's cheesy as hell, unintentionally hilarious and Dolph is as wooden as a plank. However,I love the movie due to Frank Langella's greatly underrated performance of Skeletor - one of the best screen villains ever.

Back to the Future - Great characters, original, clever and funny.A true classic.

Ghostbusters 1 & 2 - The SFX were really good for their time, but without that aspect, the chemistry between the characters is fantastic. The fact they're actually funny and don't take themselves seriously makes it even better.Add some good synth music and you have you two timeless family movies.

Beverly Hills Cop 1 & 2 - Both are fairly standard action/thrillers (first is much better) with the obligatory one dimensional villains, but Eddie's tour de force performance makes these something unforgettable.Hard to believe he was only 23 when he made the first one.
