The new world was discovered in 1492. Isabella and ferdinand came to power in the 1400s too. 2 answers eliminated :)
 
1500's was the "Age of Discovery", wherein Spain, Portugal, England and France dominated expoloring the New World and establishing settlements and churches for teaching Christianity to the natives of the Americas. It is also in this time that the Christian part of the world (Western Europe) became the dominant powers in the world and to this day still are. Everyone else was resting on their laurels (Asia, Africa, N America, S America, and the Middle East). That's why to this day you will see French New Guinea instead of Egyptian New Guinea, or American Samoa instead of Indian Samoa. While the world slept the Europeans made huge discoveries in technology and ship building.
