What are the laws regarding "common law husband/wife" in New york?

Does any one know what would be a common law husband in New York. My aunt wants to kick out her boyfriend of 20 years but doesn't know what this will mean in terms of her home which only her name is on the deed. Any help is appreciated.
 
New York does not recognize "common law marriages", those that take place without license or ceremony, unless those marriages were established in a different state meeting the foreign state's conditions.
