I did a bit of research using the Search Y! Answers tab, and obtained the following results:
"Holocaust hoax" in category Arts and Humanities, subcategory History: 62 results
"evolution hoax" in ALL categories: 509 results
"global warming hoax" in category Environment, subcategory global warming: 2195 results
I also redid each search dropping the word "hoax"
"Holocaust" in category Arts and Humanities, subcategory History: 8979 results
"evolution" in ALL categories: 144841 results
"global warming" in category Environment, subcategory global warming: 32325 results
The first set of search results as a percentage of the second comes to:
"Holocaust" with "hoax" 0.7%:
"evolution" with "hoax" 0.4%:
"global warming" with "hoax" 6.8%
These sorts of searches obviously just scratch the surface, but here are three corroborating observations:
1) With varying degrees of qualification/waffle, all but one of the Republican presidential candidates has publicly endorsed some form of denial of climate science. To my knowledge, none has ever denied the historical reality of the World War II genocide carried out by the Nazis and collaborators.
2) A number of countries have actual laws against publicly denying the Holocaust; I am not aware of any such laws against denying evolution or climate change.
3) Some of the climate science deniers here on Yahoo Answers quite evidently take a very dim view of religion in general and creationism/evolution-denial in particular.
I doubt that these results will surprise many people, and there are undoubtedly a number of important underlying reasons for them. My question is: Which reasons do you think MOST important for explaining why denial of global warming is more common and accepted than other forms of denial?
Edit: Reid Bryson, born 1920, is a new name to me. Of course, saying climate change science that happened after he retired is "not science" is akin to claiming that Copernicus and Kepler's astronomy was wrong because it contradicted Ptolemy.
