What are the features of an Unlocked sidekick?

I really want a sidekick but my parents contract is with AT&T so I was looking for an unlocked lx on ebay. I was just wondering, can you still do everything with AT&T, on a Tmobile phone? Can you check your email and use aim and everything and if not what does and doesn't work? Thanks
