What are the differences between Xbox arcade, elite and S? Please help?

Hi,

I want to buy an Xbox - I wouldn't use it loads, but when I do I'd want to play online (Xbox live) with friends on new games. Therefore, does it matter what console I get?

I've heard the arcade's memory can be expanded, would this make it EXACTLY the same as the elite?

Questions:
1) Is the only difference between arcade, S and elite the memory?
2) I've heard arcades break more often, is this true?
3) Is the elite or S worth the extra money?

This is the console bundle I'm after:

Please give me actual answers and not biased opinions; although genuine opinions are welcome. Thanks.

P.S: Are the 'red light' things still a common problem, the ones that break the console or whatever.
