What are the customs regulations shipping electronics TO Japan?

I want to order an ASUS G73JH-A2 17" gaming laptop from a store in the US. I currently reside in Japan. The store can send it expediated by UPS. The total will be around $1600. I'm prepared to pay sales tax, but what would the duty be? Could I make any requests to the store in order to avoid major duties?
