I figure it is highly unlikely to ever happen. But, for arguments sake, lets say some gravitational perturbation causes some asteroids in the asteroid belt to start grouping together, heating up, attracting more and more asteroids and eventually clearing out the whole area between Mars and Jupiter of asteroids. I realize the time scale would be eons and eons, but what are the possibilities of it happening and what would the effects be on other planets in the solar system?
