What are the chances Egypt is going to be free after this military coup?

It takes somebody pretty much insane to initiate a coup and a strong military backing. Doesnt this generally create a brutal dictatorship and not freedom?
"During these very difficult circumstances Egypt is going through, President Hosni Mubarak has decided to step down from the office of president of the republic and has charged the high council of the armed forces to administer the affairs of the country," he said.

That and another headline said that a military coup is thought to have brought his swift resignation.
