As far as I can ascertain, particularly in regards the Da Vinci Code book, the book has mainly given both readers and the media the benefit of more entertainment.
EDIT ADD: I thought I'd better come back, after reading your question again, and let you know that "The Da Vinci Code" is a fiction work, not nonfiction...
