What are the arguments on the issue of the 'smallest unit of life?'?

I have to write a last-minute paper really quick, and the topic is:

"Is the cell the smallest unit of life? Outline the arguments for and against."

I can't seem to think or find any other theories or arguments that oppose the cell theory.
If there are any, what do some people believe to be as the smallest unit of life if not the cell?

I need some ideas fast, please, anything.
