im just curious. I've read a lot of poetry and all are vivid
what makes poems so appealing to the psyche when they are well written? o,o

If you can relate to the poem or it evokes an strong emotional reaction then it kind of belongs to you, too, which is why love poems are always popular. Too much these days has no rhyme scheme or meter and is just sentences broken down and cut into lines with no real meaning and called poetry. For example:

Too much these days
has no rhyme scheme
or meter
and is just sentences
broken down
and cut
into lines
with no real meaning
and called poetry.

is not a poem, but looks deeper than it actually is when organized like this. Imagine doing the same thing with music: No tempo, no organiztion of what's being sung; it that still music?

Here's an example of what I consider to be a poem:

With deep blue eyes and hair like fire
Above two perfect, loving lips.
What wonders did this face inspire,
This face that launched a thousand ships.
Not even Helen's famous face
And beauty, which provoked a war,
Could make my heartbeat leap and race:
This Beauty I've been longing for.
So like a dream, so perfect formed,
I know that I shall not forget
The day my old heart first you warmed.
I love you, dearest Nicolette.

But art is subjective, which is why Jackson Pollack and Renoir are both considered to be painters

How should I know, I forget what I have written within a day or so and barely remember anyone elses poems at all.

Song Lyrics are a different matter so if you want imortality as a wordsmith get your poetry set to music.

There are some great lines though.

"Infamy Infamy they've all got it In Fa Me" Carry on Cleo.

"Once more unto the beach dear friends once more" the boring one in Benidorm.

To me,
Because it captures moments, experiences especially those that are memorable to the poet.
And also what the poet sees through his/her eyes. Their view towards life/the world. Not everyone has the same point of view towards everything. It's wonderful...really, it is.
Most of all, that the poetry comes from the poet's heart.

Those above are what I believe about poetry and why I love it so much.

there is a magic
that happens
when words are touched
by a poet
and then
they touch
the reader
and for a spell
loneliness
is banished
because
two people
share the same pain
or joy
or moment
depending on the poem
this is the art
let no one tell you different
or at least
I hope that I don't
=P

A well written poem touches the reader in his or her emotions in some way.
The thoughts are expressed in a sensitive and emotional way, unlike prose.
There is a beauty in the expressions used even if the subject is not beautiful.
A picture flows through the mind of the reader.
I wouldnt want to live in a world without poetry.

it's the transfer of emotion and imagery that comes from a truly well written poem, a good poem speaks to the reader rather than simply being read by them =).....that's good line a gotta use that lol
EDIT amen mitch
