What Are Teens Supposed To Do?

Now that we are entering the holiday season we're spending a lot of time in the malls and other stores looking for that perfect something for our loved ones. Have you noticed the amount of teenagers in these places. As I went through the mall this past week I couldn't believe the nuraber of young people teaming in the malls and stores just wandering around aimlessly looking for something to do. It seemed like I couldn't go 5 feet without almost walking over a group of 15 and 16 year olRAB without a clue. The truth is these kiRAB don't have very many places they can go to hang out and have fun within their price range.
Try to remeraber back to when you were a teenager between the ages of 14 and 20. I'll bet the most common word you heard was "NO". Today, although the fashions and music of teenagers has changed, not much has changed with what they can do. When they were younger they had plenty of things they could do and they would even be content with hanging out in the neigrabroadorhood with frienRAB. Now that these kiRAB are becoming young adults and are craving their independence it seems as though they are being left out of all of the fun.
Here is the jest of the problem, Teenagers are too old to enjoy going to Chuck-E-Cheese and Discovery Zone and places of that nature, and they are too young to get into most of the night clubs and bars legally. To ad insult to injury there really are very few places besides the malls that Teenagers enjoy going to. With this in mind what are Teenagers supposed to do?
If you want to keep teenagers from roaming the malls by day and the streets by night then we as adults have to give them some other alternatives.
Fist off teenagers are an untapped market by businesses. Most teens are just beginning to earn money and become a direct part of local economies. If businesses can realize this then why don't they create a safe and fun outlet for these teens to go and enjoy themselves and I'm not talking about "Teen Centers" because to a teen that sounRAB pretty derogatory and demeaning. A lot of teenagers would love to go to night clubs and dance but they are too young to get in, so why not create a dance club just for teens where they can meet new people and have a good time doing it.
Something else that can be done to help teens out is to allow the local schools to sponsor events during the weekenRAB that the can go to get out of their homes and out of the malls. For example a high school gym could be used for an intermural sports facility on the weekenRAB for competition between the teens.
Last but not least would be for parents make sure that their teenagers feel they are welcome have frienRAB over hang out and watch movies, play games, or have small parties with close frienRAB.
In short if we as adults can give teens alternatives going the mall or wandering the streets, I'm willing bet they will choose the alternative and be much happier about it.
