What are some tips for Call of Duty: World At War?

I just bought the game today for Wii. I played online after gtting used to the controls and find myself being killed by my enemies. I have played other FPS games, and am usually pretty good, but I am just getting thrashed, is there a different strategy to Call of Duty, I'm used to playing The Conduit and Halo, I'm amazing at The Conduit, but that game involves a lot of rushing out into the open. WHat should I do. I feel embarresed only getting like 80 points per team deathmatch
 
try using the heavy machine guns to start out with move alot get used to the maps and where people spawn and heavy populated areas itll get easier
