What are some things you need to study to become a Herpetologist?

Or someone who works/researches Tortoises and/or aquatic turtles?

Biology is obvious but what else?

My passion is tortoises and I just don't know what to do with my life so I'm trying to research.

Good schools, what exactly to study, etc...
If anyone else knows what you could do working with Tortoises, that'd be great if you'd let me know lol
Any other suggestions are completely appreciated.
