What are some simple designs to paint a bookshelf and other items in my middle

Let the kids paint it! It would be a bunch of fun, and they can show off their school spirit. Give them guidlines though (you know how 7th and 8th graders minds get). Give out a prize like extra points for the team who does the best job. That way, when they come back years from now, they will always want to come to your classroom and show off what they did when the were a kid.

school classroom? I'm a middle school teacher and I have a short, long bookshelf, short podium, and table in my room. The paint job is old and it looks like the person that painted it last just painted over the old color. I want to sand the paint off this summer and paint it new.
I am nowhere near being an artist! I had someone suggest looking up designs on the internet and projecting them on to the items and tracing/painting that way. I liked this idea and will probably do with that, but I would like more ideas.
Anyone have any other good ideas? Our school colors are purple and white. Please keep in mind this is a classroom for 7th and 8th graders.
