What are some safe ways to paint my car myself?

Trust me, get it done proffesionally. I tried to paint my chevrolet cobalt back in 2003, and it turned out horrible. Just go to maaco or something, they do a hell of a good job.
 
If you take the time to prep the car for painting (this takes much more time than the actual painting) you can save a lot of money and still have it professionally painted.
Remove all of the emblems and other trim that's easier to remove than tape off, repair any small dings and dents and sand the entire vehicle.
All it will then need is a good coat of primer/sealer, a finish sanding and the final paint.
 
if you have never painted a car then you are going to open up a can of worms. let a professional do it. i know its gonna cost more money but it saves you from messing up the paint and it not looking good, inexperienced painters end up leaving chemicals on the car that will mess up the paint like orange peel, fish eyes, and runs
