I haven't dealt with home routers in a while and am out of the loop. The last one I bought was in 2007 -- a Linksys WRT54G ver6. I used to swear by Linksys, but ver6 was when they switched their router kernel from Linux to VxWorks, resulting in WRT54Gver6 being a complete POS for a year until they finally released a firmware update that made the device usable
It is my goal to buy a wireless (that has wired options) router for a friend, but I want it to work on delivery. Any current issues with the latest Linksys routers? Which models do you like?
Other brands that come to mind are Netgear and Dlink. The latest Dlink I've seen was a POS, but I've seen some bad Netgears also. Any recommendations?
Wireless G is really all I am looking for, but would prefer one with N and backwards compatibility.
