What are some good ways to boost fertility?

My husband and I are wanting to have another child (our #2) and have been having unprotected sex over a year with no luck. Hes in the military so most of the time we're apart. I have irregular periods though so im sure that is a contributing factor as well. I ordered Vitex because it had good reviews. Has anyone tried that? Also i was thinking about Chlomid and read that it was fairly inexpensive but i really dont wanna go to tthe doctor to get a perscription. Anything you have to share would be great! thanks
