What are some good exercises/workouts for me?

I want to start working out and so I bought a set of 40 lb dumb-bell. I want to focus on muscular strength (bigger muscle) but I DON'T want to get to big so after that I want to tone it for muscular endurance. Any suggestions? I'm 17 yrs old.
The set is one of those ones where you can remove and put on some weight, but it only totals to 40 lb per dumbbell.
