what are some good comic books to get started with?

recently i got into reading comic books. The first one i read was thirty days of night, i loved the art but the story and the writing style was kind of dull and cheesy. The next thing i read was watchmen and i loved it. The writing was good and not once did i find it cheesy or just stupid. The story had twists and turns and thats what clinched me into getting into this type of reading media. I heard of eightball and ghost town that they were suppose to be very good and very funny. so what should i get started on.
 
Watchmen is hard to beat considering all that goes into it.

But a lot of Dark Horse titles are pretty damn good if you want something with an adult flavor. They have some pretty deep and creative storylines.

Fables
Preacher
Sandman

And Y the Last Man though I don't think that's Dark Horse but maybe it is.
