What are some good books that discuss becoming and being a vet?

Books that tell you how to prepare, and basically a vets journey but from the beginning?
Well I mean a book where the vet talks about his experiences right from the start. Meaning undergraduate studies and how he got into vet school something like that??

You mean like a story? All creatures great and Small is an awesome book, I mean, it doesn't like teach you all the science like a merk veterinary manuel would but it's all written by an actual farm vet who basically wrote his whole story/experience of being a vet. I'm sorry but I don't really know what kind of book you're talking about.

I'd recommend Making of a Woman Vet by Sally Haddock. Came out in 1985 but still very good. She talks about her time in vet school, learning the ropes, treating patients, etc.

Another good one is If Wishes Were Horses: The Education of a Veterinarian by Gage.

Herriot's books ARE wonderful, but they're about being a vet in the 30s-60s in England. They're more about the people and animals than how to become a vet.

Good luck!

James Herriot's first novel; All Creatures Great and Small.

Sorry for repeating the previous answers but this book (and others in the same series) describe most beautifully the essence of caring.
