My dad uses all the programs included in Adobe's master collection for his work

-Maya 2010 ( Not by adobe )
and I am particularly interested in photoshop. I've watched a few tutorials and mind it amazing what you can do with this application! So, what are some good books that will teach me everything I could need to know for photoshop CS5? I've talked to many people who go to college for using these kinds of applications and they say it's actually easier to learn straight from the textbooks, and the only reason they go to college for the course is the degree. So, I'm looking for these kind of books that they are speaking of.
I hope you understand what I mean ( I'm not the greatest writer by any means.)

PS I'm also interested in the other applications that i listed, not just photoshop, so if you know any books on those as well, I'd love to hear them ( Especially on Maya 2010! )
