Here are some of my favorite novels:

Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. It's about a girl named Bella who moves to Forks, Washington and runs into a group of vampires. VERY VERY good!http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Twiligh...

Pants On Fire by Meg Cabot. It's about a girl who basically has everything (popular best friend, good grades... and TWO boyfriends.) It's really funny because then her friend from eighth grade come back to town (everyone hates him) and she falls head over heals for him too.

Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants by Ann Brashares. It's about four girls who where born as friends. They go through ups and downs together.

All-American Girl and All-American Girl Ready Or Not by Meg Cabot. It's about an outcast girl who happens to save the presidents life. Suddenly everyone at school wants to be her friend, but she doesn't really care... What she does care about is the presidents son...

Clique books by Lisi Harrison. The popular crowd has to go through ups and dows to stay on top.

Queen of Babble by Meg Cabot. It's about a girl who goes over seas with her boyfriend after (almost!) finishing college. After a bad break up with him, she goes with her friend and runs into someone.... It's a very good adult book!
http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Queen-o...

How To Be Popular by Meg Cabot. It's about a girl who comes across an old book in her grandma'a attic called how to be popular. So, she follows the rules of the book hoping to become popular.

Jinx by Meg Cabot. If you liked Twilight, then you'll like this book. It's about a girl who has bad luck all the time so she moves in with her aunt and uncle. He sister is into witchcraft and I don't want to spoil the rest, but it fairly good.

Teen Idol by Meg Cabot. This is about a girl who has an advice column in her school newspaper. So, when a famous actor comes to her school and she's the only one who knows about it, chaos occurs!

Someone Like You by Sarah Dessen is also pretty good. It's about two girls that are best friends who are having a few issues in the love department.

Just Listen by Sarah Dessen is one of my favorites! It's about a girl who had something terrible happen to her and she's learning how to cope with it and befriends an outcast boy.

The Devil Wears Prada
just to get you started but they don't really seem like your type

the clique series by lisi harrison are good for a 13 year old, im 16 and i still read them. they are easy but they are amazing you get caught up in the glamour. kinda like the a- list series, but on the books it says you must be 15 to read them, but hey who cares. those are by zoey dean. another good book is just listen by sarah dessen, and someone like you by sarah dessen, just listen is about 400 pages long but it pulls you in and i read it in one day!. but one last book that is good is pool boys by erin haft. however most of these are like romance and hollywood. but if you dont like that kinda stuff. theres another series and its the flight 29 down series(maybe you've heard of the show??) and those are good to read not like the other ones i listed. but they are good!, and they are written by Machale and rogow.
hope this helps. =]

Forgotten Realms, Tales from Earthsea.
I would suppose that you have read Harry Potter.
I strictly only read Fiction.
Oh, try Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.

Uh, for average 8th grade you are above average. But... I got you beat! I can read like a college sophmore (whatever that means!lol). But because you are also above average, that will narrow down to what I think are good series... It Girl, is a wonderful series, lots of drama... If you're into sci-fi... Well, I'm guessing you read Harry Potter... Just a guess... Uh! What is that called! Grr... Uh! I can't remember, but it was a really awesome series... Okay, how about Keys to the Kindgom? Good series I quit reading it though... Don't know why... How about a good vampire book!? Ugh! Can't remember... It said like France 1812 or something like that... Kay... Non-fiction... Not really a series but... It got me hooked for a month! Pick up a book called Tales of the Secret Annex and you might want to find some more Anne Frank books! All I have time for now!
Later

Have you tried anything by Brian Jacques? He is a children's author but, the books can really be enjoyed by people of all ages. I'm 27 years old and I still read them!
He has a whole series of books based on a fantasy world of animals. The ages of the books say from 9-12 but, they are written in such a fashion that they are NOT babyish.
Here is a link to Amazon of the first book in the Redwall series called "Redwall": http://www.amazon.com/Redwall-Book-1-Brian-Jacques/dp/0441005489/ref=tag_dpp_lp_edpp_ttl_in
Good luck and happy reading!

house of the scorpion (nancy farmer) or walk two moons (sharon creech). great books.

Maximum Ride Series by James Patterson
It's awesome!!! I'm obsessed with the characters.
Believe me, it'll get you hooked by the first page, it's a page turner, classic James Patterson.

It's about 6 kids, oldest 14 youngest 6, are on the lamb because evil scientists want them extinct. So they have many adventures, and all of them have at least one special power, besides being able to fly. Action like a video game, drama like a novella, fantazy that's could be true if you'd think about it and a hint of romance all in one.
I think you'd enjoy it.

4 books so far in the series.
Maximum Ride: the Angel Experiment
Maximum Ride: School's out Forever
Maximum Ride: Saving the World and other Extreme Sports
Maximum Ride: The Final Warning

I won't bore you with more details, sorry. I'm just in love with this book!

These are not in a series, but read Diary of Anne Frank, Adventures of Tom Sawyer
