What are some good beginner fish for a 5 gallon tank?

My friend has a 5 gallon tropical tank, and needs some fish to put in it. Recently her two goldfish died (not surprisingly because she is a complete beginner and goldfish are hard to care for ;-) ) We are going to completely clean out and change the water, and let it sit, but i was wondering what the best fish would be to put in after the water's been taken care of. She needs hardy fish that she can easily take care of

any fish other than bettas???
