what are some good 11th/12th grade level books about asian culture/ life?

i would prefer fiction or someone's story of a hard childhood. something about life in an asian culture/ country from the perspective of a child or teenager experiencing life during a war (like a child living during the Korean or Vietnam War) or life under a dictatorship type regime, or how hard life is for them. prefer less than 300 pages.

Obasan by Joy Kogawa is a good one. It is about the life of a Japanese girl live in Canada when World War II started. Her whole life changed from a happy, easy life under the protection of her family into hell on earth by the discrimination and hatred from the people and Canadian government back then.
