What are some creative low-cost ways to market a childrens' birthday party business?

I am starting a childrens' birthday party business (i.e. princess, pirate, tea parties etc.) I am on a shoestring budget and I want to test the waters before I throw a whole bunch of $ into it. Any ideas how to get the word out there and start booking parties!?
Also, any ideas on cheap venue options to rent by the day?!
Thanks for your help everyone!

Go around preschools and schools and had out flyer's or ask to have a classroom to sit down with and tell the children about the fun they can have and send them home with brochure's, this will send the message to the parents aswell as the children would have listened and want to have a party with .......pirate /watever and nag the parents for their birthdays.
make sure you have a diary so you'll never forget what's booked that day.
Also you could go thru town dressed up and go up to people with children and give them a special offer if they book there and then.
Venue's im not to sure where about your from so im not sure on what will be best.

You know, I'm an Esthetician, and I do little girl "spa" parties, but only once in a while for close friends' children.
I'll bet if you went around to a few few salons with some flyers or handouts, and you offered that type of a party idea maybe on the front page, I'm sure you'd find a few people who would let you put up a flyer, or set some hand outs on a table in their waiting area.
I started my own business as well, and in a town I was new to. It took a lot of foot work, business to business, asking if I could advertise there. Eventually the business came, but like any kind of new business, it takes a while to get the word out, especially in these hard economical times.
The best way is heel toe flyers door to door, or on car windshields in parking lots, and like I mentioned the business to business ideas.
That's the best way at a very low cost to you.
You might want to make up a few different types of flyers though...exaple: the ones you take to the salons, have the main focus suggestion about the mini girl spa party idea, and perhaps, drop some at the local fire or police dept, focusing on that as a theme. And so on. Those are just suggestions.
There are a lot of ways to advertise at low cost, it will just take some time, and some creativity.
Colour is pretty important on flyers and posters, so be sure not to cheap out and use black and white if you want to be noticed.
Good Luck to you!
I'm sure it will be a hit!
Be sure to investigate also if there is a "Small Business" office in your town, because you may be entitled to some free help from some local professional entrepreneurs. Check the phone book or internet.
