What are good topics to talk about with a girl that I like?

I asked a girl that I liked to the prom and she said yes. Her friends are saying that she likes me but not a lot. I talk to her sometimes, but I get nervous. What are good topics to start conversation? And how should I approach her? I frequently talk to her after school and during class. My friend told me just to go up to her and start talking all of sudden. I told him it's weird and kinda awkward because I just randomly show up to her and start talking to her. Anyways, are there any possible and best ways to talk to her? I really like her a lot.
