What are good distortion pedals for guitars?

I have never owned a distortion pedal nd I want one. I really liked the ibanez jemini nd the hardwire sc-2. I want something that can sound hardcore nd metal-like bt also to be able to sound smoother nd warmer nd nonmetal-like (which is why I liked the jemini) nd I dont want to spend more than $250
