i'm a single person. i work full-time, but my gross income last year was less than $23k. i don't have children (though i'd like to have some before i age out of that equation). i live alone comfortably enough. it's not always easy, but it's not the day-to-day struggle of those post-college years when i was new to the working world and out there on my own either. it just seems that all the new york state health initiatives are geared toward single parent households, and if you're single and employed, the premiums you'd have to pay each month would make it impossible to afford food and/or electricity. so it's like, you pay for health insurance and really need it because you're under-nourished or homeless because you can no longer afford your rent; or you live your life and try to save a little for a rainy day, try to eat healthy and take care of yourself, and hope you don't get sick enough to need health insurance (which is pretty much what i do now).
anybody out there have any experience with the healthcare system in new york, or just advice from a similar perspective and what you do for your own situation? thanks.
