What amount of income will qualify for financial aid?

I am hoping to go back to school. The total amount is $9,850. I am 21 and married. I dont have children and my husband and I together made about $40,000. Three months of this income is because my husband was working as a civilian contractor in Iraq, and he isnt doing that now, so this year our income isnt that much, but they want to see last years income. Should I just wait til next year? What is the range of income that usually qualifies? And what do you think I would possibly qualify for?
