...state" in so many words? The Pledge has been modified four times since then, with the most recent change adding the words "under God" in 1954. Here is the pledge of allegiance before 1954.
I pledge allegiance to the Flag
of the United States of America,
and to the Republic for which it stands:
one Nation indivisible,
With Liberty and Justice for all.
Would you not agree that if we don't kick their foot from between the door, they will eventually push in their theocracy. Hence it is important that this be removed from both from the pledge and money to preserve religious freedom for all faiths.
Conservatives will yell that this is an anti-religious move, but the truth is that it is their intent to push Christianity both in the consciousness of Americans, and our Government that this is a christian nation to eventually solidify an legitimize a theocratic government.
In 1954 the government gave them an inch, now they have taken a mile. Eventually we will be ruled by the Church, like the Vatican ruled over Europe.
