What A/V program(s) do news channels use?

You know how CNN, NBC, FOX...how they pull up all those pictures/videos on the spot, with the logo on the side and the streaming banner on the bottom...?

Well, I'm wondering what A/V program they use for that, and what alternative I could use for myself.
