Might people who live in a Dark Age be more open to cultural innovation than those who ibhabit a fully civilized period? Why?

Maybe the really poor would.

But it was called the Dark Ages because people intellectually shut themselves of from scientific enlightenment and instead put all their beliefs and faith into religion. Which didn't work out well.
