in New moon chapter 13.Killer page 318, Jacob says "Close enough. Sam told me I couldn't tell you. He's...the head of the pack,you know. He's the Alpha. When he tells us to do something,or not to do something--when he really means it,well,we can't just ignore him." I was wondering, is the whole thing with Jacob haveing to listen to Sam, is it he physically can't do it, or is it he's just not allowed to? And if it's physically impossible to do it when he tells them not to, does the same apply to Jacob since he's the "Beta"?
