were the mayan civilization rich or poor?

since they don't have same cureny as other ciziliztion
but they are rich in their way
they got lots of knowlegde which is valuable for them
they know how to irrgation so they can get food more easily which is really valuable
remember, since mayan are really known for lots gold
so european believe that they are rich because they got lots of gold
but really they are depending on their technlogy for their rich

They were fairly well off.
They had excellent health.
Plenty of food.
The area was known for gold and jewels but the locals didn't put the value on them that Europeans did .... they were simply very pretty rocks.
Cacao beans ...... THOSE were more valuable than gold.
They were also in power, which means they took their "winnings" also.
I read once that the losers of their "soccer" game AND their fans had to give up their clothes to the winners.

Of course they DID have an "elite" class ..... royalty, priests, wealthy merchants, etc but on the whole, it was a well to do society.

They were rich in their own way. cocoa beans u cud say were their money. and there was plenty of that. if they mined and farmed and saved most of the mined goods. they cud be very rich in present days.
