I'm aware that the likes of the Viking lander and presumably the craft since then were sterilised, but what about the probes which crashed accidentally on the surface and the early Soviet landers? Were they also sterilised, or is it possible there are terrestrial microorganisms on Mars now?
Were the early Mars probes sterilised?
