Well, I'm coming back to Nokia...

After a dreadful experience with the N97, it appears that the reviews on the N8 are promising... I've just sold my iPhone 4 and am coming back!

iPhone 4 is great, but, I'm just bored of the iPhone... I really wanted to love the N97, but, couldn't handle the constant bugginess of it.. Lets hope the N8 has none of that :)

Grey is ordered on enroute.. Anyone else make the leap FROM an iPhone 4 to an N8? Thoughts on the N8 vs the N97?

I have both the N97 and the N8. I never had the hate for the N97 that some other users had. For my use it worked well. The only thing that I really hated about it was the overall sluggishness. I used it for tethering, web surfing, pictures, facebook, and a few other apps.

I got the N8 on the Dell discount about a month ago. I will say that the N8 (to me) feels like a huge improvement over the N97. Everything is faster on this phone compared to the N97. Also most of my s60v5 apps work on the N8 (huge plus). The camera has been amazing and I use it daily. I have also started recording video since it can capture decent video. One thing I have found myself doing more on the N8 than the N97 is gaming. The N97 was sluggish even with N-Gage titles. I basically gave up after downloading one or two games. There are at least a handful of solid games for the N8 and I probably game about an hour a day on this thing. In general I have found myself using the phone more than my N97 and getting better battery life (I know that some people are experiencing the opposite with their batteries). So far I have been extremely happy with my purchase. Let me know if you have any specific questions.

I picked up an N8 from Amazon yesterday for about $265 (429 minus 20 Amazon Credit minus 144 Amex point transfer), so I'm pretty eager to get my hands on one and put my content on it. I've read all of the reviews, handled demo units, and poured over all of the posts here, but there is something to be said about trying it yourself.

I also have an N97 mini, and from my experiences so far, the Mini is still a great phone that needs about 1-2 more updates to truly shine...I haven't touched it though since I placed my SIM in my iPhone 4.

The only thing that compels me to keep using the iPhone, is that it simply works and I can rely upon it day in, day out; no bugs, no glitches, reliable push email, solid call quality, rock solid browser, and, even though I think most apps are nothing but distractions, the quality and selection is astounding (not to mention the way the apps update right on the phone is truly awesome).

I really want N8 so I can have a device with me at all times that will allow me to have an open file system (I'm constantly editing/downloading/listening to music on the go), HDMI-out, usb-hosting, etc etc...I hope I'm not going to be disappointed.

While the N8 still has a variety of humorous glitches and bugs here and there, any comparison to the N97 can really only be summed up as "lol."

Obviously the N8 will lack the software polish of the iPhone and you'll miss the very broad selection of games and knick-knack apps available for iOS. On the other hand, you won't need quite so many different web-getter type apps for every little web-related thing. You'll also pull your hair out when using the browser, because although it renders faithfully and displays flash, it's slow to load and stalls out just like it always has when loading big pages.

It's a very interesting device. You'll dislike it initially but it will grow on you. Its media capabilities are just awesome and it's literally exploding with potential. Battery life is also extremely impressive.

I'm also thinking of getting an N8. I have used Android ever since the original droid came out. Before that I used unlocked Nokia's like the E66, E71, and N95. What do you all think, will I like the N8 knowing what I know about android? I know there's going to be some things I don't like, mainly the browser but I miss Nokia and would like to give it another shot. Or am I wasting my time by gettting a N8?

These are a lot of the reasons I hated my N97... I used my N97 as a personal/business handset and m4e is just embarrassing.. How can you NOT be able to accept a meeting request? I also found it incredible annoying that I can't see who is in my meetings that I was about to walk into.. This was rather embarrassing for me on my first meeting because I forgot the name of the client, looked in the Cal and couldn't see who I was meeting with!

This is a non-issue now as I use a BlackBerry Torch as my business handset (IMO not one can touch BlackBerry for BUSINESS).

What really excites me with the N8 is the HDMI output ability.. I travel extensively for work and I'm noticing more and more hotels have HD TV's that have HDMI ports in them... This will allow me to put some movies with me and allow me to watch them on my hotel TV instead of my iPad/laptop.

The apps on the iPhone are awesome, don't get me wrong, but, I find that they are quickly draining me of money.. I keep buying $0.99/$1.99 apps that I use once and never again. Because Apple makes it so easy to buy these stupid apps, I'm going broke :)

GRAVITY!! If there is one thing I miss on my N97 (And Mini, had both) it's Gravity. I have yet to find a twitter app that kicks as much A$$.

And the N8 looks pretty cool too :)

No contest between the N8 and N97. I do like a physical keyboard, but besides that the N8 is better in almost every way (I was never a big fan of the N97 anyways, and if we didn't need it for development, I would have never used it). One thing I do notice on the N8 is the occassional lag, mostly right after installing an app, or when using the app manager to uninstall apps, that I don't see on other Symbian/S60 devices. We're also working on some Native QT apps, and those seem to run really slow at times, which is strange. But all in all, it's definitely a very nice device in my opinion.

I sold my N8 a few weeks back and wanted to try Android. Let me tell everyone that unless you are willing to carry a damn phone charger around ANDROID IS CRAP! My current device only lasts one day TOPS with light to moderate usage, where my N8 easily lasted two full days on a single charge.

I was one of the lucky ones who got the newegg deal at $386 .. so I'm putting the Android in storage and turning back to Symbian!

I took advantage of the Amazon deal...ah now the waiting game.

I've been switching between an iPhone 3GS, BB9700, and the ol' E71. There's bits about each that I wish would just be combined into one totally awesome phone... iPhone's app selection, 9700's size & keyboard, & E71's call quality and "phone" features, not to mention Joikuspot & Profmail. However, I actually miss my old N73's camera! I seemed to take more photos & video having a half decent lens always with me. This is one of the big reasons for trying out the N8...forget the "tech", I want to interact with the physical, ha!

BTW Killermobile, will Save Jimmy run on the N8? (one of, if not the, greatest app ever programmed!)

So Ive been on Amazon three times today putting the N8 Silver into my cart only to get cold feet. The N97 was just SO bad. I love Nokias call quality and RF but Symbian leaves a little to be desired. I can get over that if everything else works well.

So how does the touch screen QWERTY work? Is it at least close to the iPhone? Does it auto correct well? How does Gmail work? I can give up all the dumb apps on the iPhone for a real phone and bad a$$ camera. Just want to make sure the basics work well like they should.

You guys that have the N8 whats your number one biggest grip with it?

I'd cancel the order and get a silver

You can get mini HDMI cables for less than $5 shipped

I can't use my thumbs on the qwerty keyboard. I've gotten used to just using my right index finger. Gmail is mostly the same, except you can set it so html images are preloaded.

I find the touchscreen in qwerty to be lousy to tell you the truth. In fact that would be my biggest gripe. The iPhone has the best qwerty touchscreen period. But don't fret -- if you order it from Amazon and don't like it you can return it for a full refund, including shipping costs.

Sounds about like my thumbs and the iphone. Im pretty bad at it. So why the silver over the grey? Just looks better? That is actually the one I went with, thought the silver looked better IMO.

Figures I went with Newegg for the 10% discount. Non returnable item.

LOL

I was doing that for the past few weeks. Been getting cold feet every time I would put the N8 into my cart also.
Just yesterday after waking up I decided to order the unlocked Dell Streak w/froyo instead to try my hand at android before purchasing an N8 at a later time.
Maybe if I wait long enough they will release the v30 update for my N97 and most of the gripes will be corrected.

If you're concerned about the keyboard, and you should be because it's pretty poor, get Swype. It's awesome. It doesn't work in portrait yet but that's supposed to be fixed really soon. It's the best touchscreen keyboard in existence at the moment and its predictive and learning capabilities are absolutely amazing.

Portrait text entry is a total write-off on the N8 at the moment.

LOL good to know Im not the only one. Ive been so frustrated with the iPhone Im just ready for a change. Ive actually been dancing with the N8 for a week or two now before pulling the trigger today. Been there done that with Android. Just wasnt all that impressed but its getting better. And dont hold your breath on that N97 update haha

Wirelessly posted (The Eliteness: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8B117 Safari/6531.22.7)

I have a brand new N8 waiting for a new browser and portrait keyboard. Until it gets those, I doubt it'll get much attention over my iPhone 4...

The N8 is a solid device.. It's just hard to get off my iPhone, which really spoils me to be quite honest

I have no problems with it. Faster to launch than the previous Java version - much faster to load pages than Opera Mobile (or any browser on any phone).

It does not do quite as good of a job at rendering complex pages as the native WebKit browser (or FWIW, Opera Mobile), perhaps.
