Man, ya gotta program the code! do it now, or when you get home from work today! It is very, very easy...and eliminates all stress (forgetting the fob, dead fob batteries, etc.). It works, but practice it a time or two. Half the time I ride, I don't bring my fob, and start it with the code. I wish I could start my car with a code, I hate carrying around keys...

Programing the code is a must, a lot of people don't even know about that function!! That's sad that the dealer didn't show them and/or they didn't read the manual. As far as trips go, you could pull the battery out of a spare fob.

I did it once. Left it on the wall at work where I park. Realized it when I stopped for gas. Not enough gas to get back to work.

Asked attendant for his key to the soda machines. He looked at me like I was nuts. Soon as he seen how it worked he was suprised. I got my gas.

I programmer my code soon as I got the bike home when I bought it. Fortunatly that wasn't an issue.

Programming it is a must do. And like was said. Practice using it.

The fob sends a constant signal, so proximity to the bike really doesn't have an impact. The bike looks for the signal when the ignition is turned on or it senses movement.

Time really depends on the battery quality, if you keep it in the garage (cold/heat), etc. My original batteries lasted almost 3 years. It's not a bad idea to change them every spring or at least every 2 years if you can remember. I'll just ride until they die and use the code to get home again.

I always ride with both fobs, one on my key ring, and the other one either in my jacket or on a pack I wear around my waist, with my glasses and stuff. That said, I'm gonna get out the manual and program, one of those things you know you better do before you regret not!

zactly why i told the dealer on my 06 ...no security system...i barely know how to use the stuff on my cell phone ffs........and have been around a few when their alarm system is giving them grief..makes glad i passed on it...

Lost my fob and key on a ride for dad. I think it fell off my belt loop while running down hwy 400. Glad I had code and knew how to use it. Hoping the FOB and key come back to me because I had a War Amps tag on it.
