I have to give a speech at my bro's wedding in a couple weeks, and i got the 'welcome to the family' speech. I've never given wedding speeches, so looking to get some feedback! p.s. i don't like talking to groups of ppl, so wanted to make it short and sweet
thanks! the couple references to alcohol are 'inside jokes' that everyone at the wedding will get, and so are very fitting, fyi!
I first want to take this moment to thank D and S for giving me the overwhelming opportunity to give a speech tonight, because I oh so love being the center of attention and talking to large groups of people! So please forgive me if I talk too fast or read right from my page! In all seriousness, though, there’s no 2 people I’d rather be standing up here for than D and S.
I am honoured to be standing here tonight to congratulate my brother, D, on his marriage to his beautiful new bride, S. While they say nobody is perfect, there’s no arguing that the two of you are perfect for each other. S, in you D has indeed found the girl of his dreams. You are a beautiful woman, both inside and out, you are successful, intelligent, and driven. You come from an amazing family, and share many of the same values and beliefs that D and I were raised with. In fact, if I were to try and write a list of all of the things I thought my brother needed and wanted in his ideal woman, I don’t think the girl from the list could come anywhere close to the woman sitting next to him tonight. Not only that, but on a selfish note, I couldn’t have chosen a better sister in law! I love the fact that you’re someone I can talk to and relate to, you make a great shopping buddy since you share my appreciation for clothes and shoes, you love and respect your family, and you like to have fun and we can share a few drinks together…. Errr maybe we’ll take it easy on the whole drinking part! More importantly, you’ve made my brother happier than I’ve ever seen him, and I thank you for that!
To my brother, D… I can’t begin to describe how happy I am for you today. I know you’re going to make a great husband, and S is lucky to have you. Since we were kids, besides mom and dad, who I can’t even begin to describe here, we’ve always been each other’s biggest fans. It didn’t matter if it was going to hockey games or dance recitals, other sports or school activities, to more recently graduating from school, moving away, finding new jobs or buying new homes, we’ve always been there for each other. Whether it was being there in person, or making phone calls or sending emails to find out how things went, we’ve always wanted the best for each other and are happy to see one another succeed. With that being said, I can honestly say I’ve never been happier and more proud than I am today to be the one standing on the sideline, cheering you on, as you begin your new life with S.
S, ever since you and D started dating last July, I’ve been referring to you as sister, and I’m so elated that tonight I can now officially welcome you to our family and call you my sister! And I think it’s only fitting that the 3 of us toast this marriage in much the same way it started… with a shot of tequila! At this time, I’d like everyone to raise their glasses and help me in honouring D & S. Contratulations, I love you guys!
