Weird ripping sound in neck followed by severe neck pain?

could have some how herniated a muscle, or torn a tendon,. when ever you hear a tearing sound accompanied with pain it may not be good to leave it. i would get it checked out.

I had just woken up this morning and I turned my neck to the left and heard a weird ripping type noise.

Since then I've had severe neck pain on the left side of my neck. It's so bad that I can't turn my neck to the left or even look up.

Sometimes it feels like the nerve or muscle in my neck tightens up and its excruciating pain in my neck for a couple seconds.

Any idea what this could be?
