Weird question; animalistic habits?

*coughs*

I've got a character in my book that is roughly 39 years old, who, for the past year, has been beaten/tortured/raped/abused in just about every way possible. Then, for about a year and a half, he is locked inside a cage that is about eight feet tall, 10x10. He is treated just like an animal (eg. crawling, collar/leash, nude, eliminating on the floor, eating by lapping food up, the whole shebang).

How long, after so much of that, would he continue to act like that? He is going to be more more comfortable sitting on the floor at that point, I imagine clothes would feel foreign... would he be able to immediately go back to eating/drinking/using the toilet like a normal person, or would it take awhile? Any info is appreciated.

I was told to ask this in this section, so here goes... if you can think of a more appropriate section, please let me know!
