weird opening tab automatic switching problem?

Let's say I have 3 tabs: A,B, and C. I'm on A now and opens a link in a new tab, let's call that A2. Its supposed to be A-A2-B-C now with me still on A right? However, I end up with A-B-A2-C with me on B now. This happens about 9 out of 10 times and I can't narrow down where and when it happens. It doesn't matter what site I'm on or whether its the first tab or any middle tab(last tab is an exception because it doesn't have anything else after it to switch to). It's not like the other tab problems other people have asked so I don't know what causes this. I don't have the "when I open a link in a new tab, switch to it immediately" checked so why on earth does this happen?:'(
