My dog has had surgeries on his ears in the past, and has been given prescription after prescription for earache/infection medication (to no avail). However, for the past couple of weeks, when he shakes his head, there's a weird crunching noise vaguely reminiscent of a wet suction cup. I've never heard of anything like this before, and I'm not sure at all what to do about it.

Also, I have to say, I can't AFFORD to take him to the vet right now. He doesn't appear to be in any pain, though obviously his ear is irritating him considerably (nothing unusual; it's been like this for a while and we've tried all the medications our vet has prescribed; nothing has worked). We won't be able to afford it for a while, we can hardly afford to feed ourselves (and no, I'm not a bad owner, but our circumstances have recently changed and we're a lot less well-off than we were when we used to be). I want to know, however, if any of you think it IS life-threatening or potentially very harmful to him and if so, I'll have to take out a loan or something to get it taken care of.
