Weird health problems? Anxiety? Epilepsy? Heart related? I don't know :(

Although, I like lots of different kinds of bugs (we need them for our gardens), I'd feel the very same way if I found a tick as you describe,

When I read your description of the little guy, I thought it didn't sound like the ticks I'm familiar with but a quick search revealed that there are several different kinds of ticks throughout the US that carry the various infections.

Take care and hope your health problems will resolve soon!!

I've lost count how many ticks I've pulled out of my body! Oh they're stubborn little buggers! Want to get really grossed out? I was awakened one night because one was burrowing into my EAR! I jumped out of bed, woke up my husband and he got it out before it dug in too deep.

If you were able to just swipe the tick off with your hand, then he didn't have time to do you any harm. It's when they've had time to "suck your blood" so to speak, and spend some leisurely hours on you, then you remove them and you're left with the tell-tale mark they leave behind maybe you should be concerned. However, I've pulled at least five ticks outta me this summer (I live on a lake) with tweezers, been left with red blotches and bumps and and really haven't given it a second thought...I just make sure the whole thing is removed, especially the belly, as that is the poisonous part, then clean the wound with rubbing alcohol. I can't worry about every buggie that bites me around here! Heck, our first year up here a brown recluse spider bit me while I slept. Eeek! I got lucky on that one...only required a week's worth of anti-biotics. (and a lot of draining the poison. Not pleasant.)

I really, really hate spiders. (needless to say, we employ an exterminator now.)

Don't freak out too much about the tick...it doesn't sound like he invested in your real estate (collar bone) too long! But talk to your doctor if you're worried. Feel better!

Since you're being woke up at night with your heart racing, maybe you should have your catecholamines checked (one of which being adrenaline). There are various things that can cause the body to put too much out when you really don't need it. - This can be mistaken for anxiety when it's really causing the anxiety type feelings. A sleep study would also be a good idea, as sleep problems such as sleep apnea can cause all sorts of issues.

Thank you all for your reply. I have been in contact with the CanLyme - it is a Canadian Lyme DIsease foundation. I have been given the "test" - basically checking off all symptoms that I have felt over the years. Out of 75, I have checked 47 (some of which I never really paid attention to! Even my husband was shocked at everything that had changed in me over the past 5 years)... the disclaimer mentions that if you have 20 or more, to seek immediate help.

I have been provided with the name and number of a specialist in BC. Unfortunately he is a retired doctor - but he is the only one in Canada with actual experience (20 years).

As for the bite, I said that I "swiped it off". It wasn't just a quick little swipe with my hand, it was frantically clawing at this damn thing to get it off of me (of course, to say it like that, I feel the fool, as I said, I'm terrified of bugs). But there, I've done it to myself. Heaven knows how long this little sucker was attached to me. YOu would have thought that i would have felt it... like an itch or SOMETHING but I didn't. It was under my shirt, meaning it could have been there from early in the morning. I just happened to turn my head "just so" in the bathroom and freaked.

It looked fat on me... but it seemed kind of flattened when it landed in the sink. I didnt' think much of it at the time.

Tamarlyn,

Thank you for getting back to us about your concerns and your intentions. By following through with your posting, you will help others who have similar symptoms and don't know where to turn, or you may help those of us who are concerned with the health of family members, friends, coworkers who have similar problems.

The posters on the lyme boards, despite their challenges, go out of their way to help others with their health issues. I am confident you are in good hands!

As for the bite, although removing the tick as soon as possible may reduce the chances of getting lyme, I have never read that immediate removal will prevent lyme...there is just too little we don't know!

I appreciate your willingness to share very descriptively, the following:

I doubt that many people remember being bitten...ticks come in different sizes, shapes, and colors, depending on what area of the country one is from. Some ticks are as small as a pencil tip...others look like small moles...and many hide in the creases of the body, on the scalp, or by the groin where they aren't readily seen. I"m not surprised that people don't know they've been bitten!

Again, it is comforting to know that you have found a network of supportive people who can offer advice as to how to proceed.

Take care, Tamarlyn, and do let us know how you're doing, when you can.
